MISSOURI GOVERNOR JAY NIXON ON FEB. 29, 2016, ADVISES COMPLAINANT JOHN KEVIN McMILLAN OF AUSTIN, TEXAS, THAT IF HE RELOCATES TO ST. LOUIS AREA OF MISSOURI, HE MIGHT NEED TO CONSULT A PRIVATE ATTORNEY IN MISSOURI ABOUT CITED ALLEGED VIOLATIONS OF Mr. McMILLAN'S PRIVACY RIGHTS INVOLVING AUSTIN, TEXAS

(Editor's Note: Ms. Taylor Barton, Constituent Services liaison for Missouri Governor Jay Nixon, politely stated to John Kevin McMillan of Austin, Texas, on the telephone on Feb. 29, 2016, that Mr. McMillan's online inquiry to Governor Nixon a matter of hours before had not mentioned that Mr. McMillan's cited organization of affiliation is the "Progressive Prohibitionist Religion," she said. Ms. Barton also mentioned that the online inquiry from Mr. McMillan of Sunday night, Feb. 28, had stated that Mr. McMillan is a former resident of Missouri who attended Washington University in St. Louis for two academic years.

Ms. Barton also stated in that phone conversation that Mr. McMillan's Feb. 28, 2016, online inquiry had posed the question to Missouri Governor Nixon: "If I relocate to the St. Louis area, would I enjoy greater and more extensive privacy rights than I have experienced in Austin (Texas) for many years?" (approximate quote).

No copy of the exact verbatim text of the online inquiry from Mr. McMillan to Governor Nixon was provided automatically to Mr. McMillan by any automated system for that very distinguished Governor of Missouri. --- jkm)

Dear Mr. McMillan:

This letter is in response to your correspondence to Governor Jay Nixon. Thank you for taking the time to contact our office.

Upon review, it appears your correspondence pertains to an issue that falls outside the executive branch of state government. The Office of Governor has no jurisdiction over legal processes, nor does it have any control over Missouri’s courts, court staff, attorneys, or judges and their decisions.

Since we cannot offer legal advice or become involved in legal matters, you may wish to contact legal counsel to aid you in this matter. If you require assistance obtaining a suitable attorney, please contact the Missouri Bar Lawyer Referral Service at (573) 636-3635 or visit http://mobar.org/.

If you cannot afford legal representation, you may wish to contact Legal Services of Missouri, which provides legal help to the low-income and disadvantaged in Missouri. Their website is provided by and supported through the efforts of the four legal aid programs in Missouri. Each legal aid program is a separate and independent non-profit 501c3 corporation that receives its primary funding from the Legal Services Corporation (LSC). The four legal aid programs in Missouri include: Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, Legal Aid of Western Missouri, Legal Services of Southern Missouri, and Mid-Missouri Legal Services. More information may be found at: http://www.lsmo.org/.

Again, thank you for your correspondence. We hope this information is of help to you.

Sincerely,

Taylor Barton
