Dear Officials of the Utah Department of Human Services state agency Child Protective Services Office in Salt Lake City,
This week I learned through online research during my leisuretime that a recent study by the U.S. Government has found that a child who lives in a household with three or more other siblings is nearly twice as likely to be victimized by parental neglect as a child living in a smaller household.
The paragraph I would like to call your attention to states: "The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Study of National Incidence and Prevalence of Child Abuse and Neglect found that families with four or more children were almost twice as likely to be neglectful than families with three or fewer children."
Do you have a current estimate on the statewide percentage for Utah -- and also, specifically, the countywide percentage here in Salt Lake County --- of all the households with at least one member of that household who is a child in which there are four or more children living in that household?
I am posing this question to you because it seems to me that there might be a need for further investigation on this issue by the State Government of Utah and local governments here in Utah. That investigation could be aimed at helping to ensure that any and all children in Utah --- regardless of the size of their household --- receive adequate attention and nurturance from their parents or stepparents who are living with them in the same household.
It seems to me that children in Utah who are victimized by parental neglect in their own household are significantly more likely to under-achieve academically and pursue criminal activities, both during their youth and later during their adult years, than are children in Utah who receive full and consistent attention and loving nurturance from their parents.
Below, please find an online link citing the above-quoted government study that found parental neglect of children in households with four or more children. The study was cited by HealthDay reporter Benj Vardigan in a December 31, 2020, copyrighted online report that he wrote and posted at the "consumer.healthday.com" website.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely and Best Wishes,
