My very candid Murray (UT)-native father, Dr. Calvin McMillan, a member of the Mormon Church throughout his years of residence in Murray, would have been appalled to witness the unseemly spectacle of the many people of Salt Lake City of today who engage in tobacco smoking outdoors right here in this state-capital city for Utah!
Those personal polluters of the air here appear to be hellbent on proving to everyone that they themselves are "CERTAINLY NOT LDS," as many of us non-smoking observers note to ourselves or to other non-smokers.
Everyone in Salt Lake City knows that the Mormon Church opposes consumption of tobacco products. Anyone who consumes tobacco outdoors here in this particular city where the LDS Church is headquartered is very aware that he or she is making a "public statement" that offends the vast majority of LDS members and many or all of the LDS Church officials in this city.
There is every hope that some researcher in Salt Lake City will also help to warn smokers that their outdoor activity is "raping the environment by polluting the air and raping non-smokers by endangering their own health."
A locally produced and enlightening factual documentary could declare this in educating local residents and visitors to Salt Lake City about the harmful effects of smoking on air-quality levels in this city striving to enhance air quality here for everyone.
