Subject: 1-10-24 Proposed 'Best Utahn Invention Award'

January 10, 2024

Dear Utah State House Majority Leader Mike Schultz,

The above copyrighted  online University of Utah  report promotes a nationally acclaimed  new invention here in Utah.

Among the key statements from that report:

"Time magazine’s annual list of the best inventions features 200 extraordinary innovations with the capacity to change people’s lives. To compile the list, Time’s editors solicit nominations and accept applications describing groundbreaking work in key fields—such as AI, green energy and sustainability—evaluating each contender on a number of factors, including originality, efficacy, ambition and impact.

"This year, Time has selected the Utah Bionic Leg as one of the best inventions of 2023, naming it in its 'Experimental' category..."

"The Utah Bionic Leg was developed by Tommaso Lenzi, a University of Utah associate professor of mechanical engineering, and his students in the HGN Lab for Bionic Engineering."

Does  the Utah State House  currently offer adequate recognition to inventors in Utah who create technological innovations  that can significantly enhance  the safety and medical health or quality of life of many Utahns?

I am very hopeful  you will consider asking the Utah State  House to each year publicly honor and award a financial prize to at least one recent or current  inventor in Utah whose cited technological innovation fits the above description.

I am also hopeful you will ask the Utah House in  2024 to designate one day of each year as "Utah Inventors Day". That proposed annual civic event and cultural event could honor  numerous Utahns over a multi-decade and multi-century  period who contributed mightily toward technological innovations in our great state and nation.

Another possibility is that your Utah State  House could offer state income-tax credits  to individuals in Utah who cite their occupation as "Inventor" and who in the most recent applicable two-year period or one-year period obtained a patent on a new invention of theirs.

Below is the inspirational copyrighted "Wikipedia" online encyclopedia  biography of the also-great Utahn inventor Philo Farnsworth, who in the 1900s developed the first-ever "fully functional and complete television system", according to "Wikipedia".

House Majority Leader Schultz,  I will be very pleased if this brainstorming letter is helpful to you and your Utah State House colleagues.

Sincerely and Best Wishes,

John Kevin McMillan, former Texas DPS full-time staff member.
