Subject: Does UT Need a 'Governor's Child Sex Trafficking Unit'?

Dear Utah State House Majority Leader Mike Schultz,

Thank you again for your  December 6, 2023, reply letter to me in which you kindly invited me to send you additional concerns of mine about Utah.

One concern of mine is this: I have not been able to identify one total consolidated State Government of Utah  crime investigation unit that has as its sole or primary  mission the  investigation and prosecution of child sex-trafficking crime cases here in Utah.

I am concerned about the possibility that efforts at investigating and prosecuting child sex-trafficking cases here in Utah currently may be undermined by the possible absence of one  statewide government agency with that primary  focus.

The possible absence  of a truly consolidated statewide  child-sex-trafficking investigations agency for all of Utah is very alarming to me. 

Among the reasons why a fully coordinated and fully consolidated Utah Child Sex Trafficking Unit is apparently  needed:

---There are many homeless children here in Utah, and the total number of homeless children in our state is apparently increasing.

---There are many adopted children in Utah who are being raised by foster-care parents.

---A significant percentage of all the families of today in our state have four or more children in their  household.

Children being raised in big families with four or more children are reportedly at increased risk of being victimized by parental neglect and parental abuse.

---High school dropouts here in Utah are apparently at increased risk of being exploited by adult sexual predators.

-----The massive influx of thousands of non-Mormons into Utah this century may have had a role in the erosion of core statewide vslues such as abstinence from alcohol, tobacco, illicit drugs, profanity, and gambling.
