Subject: 4-25-19 urgent question for Rep. Hinojosa from a constituent

April 25, 2019

Dear State Representative Hinojosa,

Are you dismayed to learn (as I myself learned in the last few days) that the Austin Police Department here in our state capital city apparently DOES NOT compile annual statistics on the total combined number of occasions citywide during the most recent calendar year in which the APD Sex Crimes Unit specifically declined to authorize a forensic rape-evidence exam on an individual requesting one?

Also, are you willing to sponsor legislation before the Texas House as soon as possible that will require each and every local law-enforcement agency to each year compile an annual statistic of the type cited above, and to also promptly share that statistical update with the news media, the Texas Department of Public Safety state law-enforcement agency, and the local district attorney's office?

Thank you in advance, Rep. Hinojosa, for your helpful reply letter to me on this.

Sincerely and Best Wishes,

John Kevin McMillan,
