Subject: 12-26-23 Letter to UT House Majority Leader  Schultz

Dear Utah House Majority Leader Mike Schultz,

As you prepare for the next session of the Utah State  Legislature that begins on January 16, 2024, I would like to offer you some additional concerns of mine:

-----The median salaries of many adult Utahns are often significantly  lower than what adult Americans in other  states of the USA earn from holding a comparable position of employment.

One possible explanation for this earnings gap between gainfully employed  Utahns and other Americans holding a comparable position of employment might be this:

Labor unions help promote salary increases and additional job-related benefits such as comprehensive medical  insurance coverage  opportunities for their members. However, the percentage of gainfully employed Utahns who are dues-paying members of a labor union is apparently lower than in many other states.

I am hopeful that the Utah State House under your enlightened leadership will soon approve a new state law that fosters a long-term increase in the percentage of all gainfully employed Utahns who are members of a labor union.

I personally feel that if the Utah State Legislature required annual audits of each and every labor union operating in Utah, with any findings about  possibly irregular or illegal conduct by a labor union operating in Utah to be automatically  shared with investigators for the Utah DPS or  the Utah Labor Commission or some other State Government of Utah agency,  this would greatly enhance the credibility with members of the general public in Utah of any and all labor unions operating in Utah  and any and all labor union members residing   in Utah.

Utah State House Majority Leader Schultz, I'm sure you are very aware that many members of  the general  public in Utah----whether rightly or wrongly-- regard  labor unions in Utah and elsewhere in the USA as allegedly being  "corrupt", "greedy", "deceitful", "dishonest",  and "having possible  alleged ties to organized crime".

If annual audit reports were conducted on each and every labor union operating in Utah, this would help to certify that any given labor union that passes the State of Utah's  annual audit is "not corrupt and does not have any ties to organized crime". That annual confirmation by the State of Utah would greatly enhance my own, and many other Utahns', level of confidence that all of the labor unions currently being permitted to operate in Utah are, in fact, honorable and law-abiding and honest.

---It is tragically apparent to many Utahns of today that many of the youths or college-age adult Utahns who smoke tobacco or vape or smoke marijuana or snort cocaine or drink alcohol may have at least one biological parent or step-parent or aunt or uncle or grandparent  who "led that young person astray" through that older relative's self-destructive, destructive,  or illegal vile habit.

It could be extremely helpful if the Utah House would appropriate funds for production of a series of very persuasive 30-second or 60-second radio and television "public service announcements" throughout Utah that each  feature an inspirational message from an admired government official or admired author or educator or  artist or actor or successful business owner or philanthropist or clergy member  or famous person in Utah.

Utah  Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson, for instance, might agree to offer a 60-second testimonial that contains a message such as:

"This is  Utah Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson, and I don't smoke tobacco products or marijuana or drink alcohol partly because I value being a good attentive mother to my children and a good attentive wife to my husband. I save lots of money each  year from not buying tobacco cigarettes or vaping products or alcohol or marijuana or any other  illicit drug.  That financial savings enables me to spend more money on being generous and kind with my husband, Gabe, and our five children. All of our children know they will NEVER  see me or Gabe high on drugs or inebriated or irritable from inflicting nicotine  into my or others'  lungs or tobacco smoke air pollution into the air.

As a dedicated mother, I feel that setting a good example for each of my children on a year-round basis is one of the very best ways I can show my maternal love for each of them."

----I feel sure that if a state agency of Utah each year published an online report that lists each of the brands and models of  shoes that Utahns can purchase in local stores or order online ("Shoes for Crews"-brand work shoes, for instance) that meet State Government  of Utah criteria for being slip-resistant or oil-resistant and foot-friendly, that very influential online public endorsement by the State Government of Utah could help save thousands of Utahns' lives each year.

With help from this online State of Utah advocacy for slip-resistant and oil-resistant shoes for all Utahns, the number of Utahn pedestrians who trip and fall and sustain a life-threatening injury  while attempting to walk on a public sidewalk or who slip and fall at their workplace  could decline dramatically in each city and county of our state.

Thank you again, Utah House Majority Leader Schultz, for your very kind words of encouragement  in your December 6, 2023, e-mail reply  letter to me.

I hope that this additional  brainstorming letter to you from a lifelong-tobacco-free, permanently alcohol-free,  single  white male adult private citizen, myself, is helpful to you and your Utah State House  colleagues.

With Friendly Best Wishes,
