APPARENT URGENT NEED FOR AN UPDATE REPORT ABOUT STAFF SHORTAGE AT AUSTIN POLICE DEPARTMENT

APD in early April was reportedly 145 officers short, and additional 911 dispatchers for APD are apparently needed.

I have not seen any estimate or report about how many officers short the staffing at APD currently is as of July 1, 2020.

The above concern was prompted by a link to a very sobering March 9, 2020, KVUE Television News account by KVUE reporter Britny Eubank that cited a major staff shortage at APD at that time.

One more recent local news report on this topic area, from the CBS News affiliate station in Austin, states that APD in early April 2020 had a need for 145 additional officers. This news story comes from reporter Nadia Galindo of the CBS Austin staff:

In the event of a major criminal-law-related crisis or crises in Austin for which response by as many APD officers as possible is needed, APD being 145 officers short and short on dispatchers could cripple Austin Police's ability to respond to that crisis.
