State Bar Director Edwards, Please note that my August 19-dated Open records request (see below) incorrectly spelled the last name of former State District Judge Scott McCown. I apologize to you for that typo, and hope that this clarification will be helpful. Also, I would appreciate a prompt reply E-mail note from yourself, confirming that you have received this spelling-clarification note, along with the Aug. 19-dated Open Records request from myself. Sincerely, John K. McMillan of Austin. Phone: 342-2295.

Note: forwarded message attached.
To: Mr. John Edwards,
Executive Director,
State Bar of Texas state agency,
State Government of Texas,

Austin, Texas 78701

August 19, 2007

Dear Mr. Edwards,

This is an Open Records request in which I seek to obtain from you a photocopy of any and all typed or printed or handwritten notes or messages or letters or memoranda or E-mail correspondence, or any other items, for that matter, that have been received by or compiled by or generated by or written by or noted by, or that are currently on file with, any staff member or official or attorney of the Office of the Executive Director of the State Bar of Texas, the Office of the Disciplinary Counsel of the State Bar of Texas, and/or the Office of the General Counsel of the State Bar of Texas, and that, in each of those cited cases, refers in any context to anonymous verbalized and audible communications that were evidenced anywhere in Travis County, Texas, including inside the city of Austin, at any time during the time period since January 1, 1997.

I wish to emphasize that anonymous E-mail and any other anonymous written communications per se are specifically excluded from the scope of this Open Records request.

Included in the scope of this informational request are any and all anonymous verbalized communications in Austin, Texas, for which your State Bar of Texas state agency has any records, and that, in each of those cases, refer at least once to any of the following attorneys: Mr. Erwin McGee of the Austin area, himself a member of the State Bar of Texas; attorney John F. Campbell of the Austin area, himself a member of the State Bar of Texas; State Bar of Texas member James Forrest, who is himself a former Assistant Attorney General of Texas in Austin; Mr. Bill (William) Leach of the Austin area, himself a member of the State Bar of Texas; Scott McGown, a former state district judge and an Austin-area resident, Mr. McGown himself no doubt being a current member of the State Bar of Texas; Ms. Carrin Patman of the Houston area, herself a member of the State Bar of Texas; Mr. Dean Lechtenberger of the Houston area, himself a member of the State Bar of Texas; attorney Gordon Shapiro, a distinguished member of the State Bar of Texas who reportedly resides in the Dallas area; Mr. Chris (Christopher) Dale, a reported resident of the Minneapolis area of Minnnesota who reportedly was a member of the State Bar of California in a recent prior year; Mr. Mark Williamson, a Minneapolis-area resident and member of the State Bar of Minnesota as well as a member of the American Bar Association; attorney Suzanne Bryant, a former or current Austin-area resident and an apparent current member of the State Bar of Texas; or attorney Leo Katz, himself a very distinguished legal scholar and a highly esteemed law professor at The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Also included in the scope of this Open Records request from myself are any documents or computer records or notes that might help explain why you yourself, in your capacity as Executive Director of the State Bar of Texas, chose not to send me any reply letter in response to the following (see below) July 15, 2007, E-mail letter from myself in which I politely posed two total questions to yourself.

In that regard, I would appreciate your sending me a photocopy of the version of the July 15, 2007, E-mail letter from me that your State of Texas agency received, along with any handwritten notes or documents or computer records on file with your state agency that relate in any way to that letter from myself.
