THE ONE CATEGORY IN WHICH THE TEXAS LEGISLATURE DESERVES AN A-PLUS FOR EXCELLENCE: THEIR GREAT WISDOM IN REFUSING TO LEGALIZE EITHER MEDICAL MARIJUANA OR THE POSSESSION OR CONSUMPTION OR SALE OF MARIJUANA IN ANY OTHER CONTEXT

Dr. Charles J. Lockwood, MD, editor in chief of the authoritative online publication "CONTEMPORARY OB/GYN", offers his own implicit praise for Texas in a two-page March 2017 article he wrote for his publication.

Dr. Lockwood holds a Master's Degree in Healthcare Management and is Dean of the Morsani College of Medicine at the University of South Florida in Tampa. Dr. Lockwood is also Senior Vice President of USF Health.

His cited March 2017 article conveying implied praise for the Texas Legislature in Austin was entitled "Medical Marijuana: An oxymoron and a risk to festuses".

In that online article, Dr. Lockwood points out that "28 (other) states and the District of Columbia have now decriminalized personal marijuana possession...(and) 29 (other) states and the District of Columbia have now legalized medical marijuana. Fl
orida...enthusiastically passed a medical marijuana referendum this past November."

In regard to so-called "medical marijuana," Dr. Lockwood indicates that the few studies on medical-marijuana that appeared to be reliable and "at low risk of bias" found that
"(medical) marijuana resulted in a greater complete nausea and vomiting response among those undergoing chemotherapy (than in patients who took a placebo instead)."

As for the effects of marijuana on women who are pregnant, recent studies have shown that "prenatal cannabis exposure is harmful to the developing brain (of the fetus)", Dr. Lockwood stated.
