Subject: Re: Sell surplus UTwind/solarpower energy to other states?

April 2, 2024

Dear Utah State Legislature House Public Utilities, Energy, and Technology Committee Chairman Carl R. Albrecht,

Thank you for your informative reply note (below) to me today.

I hope that the needs of all prospective future  and current wind-power  and solar-power-energy customers who reside  here in Utah are also being met adequately.

I might add that I am  very hopeful that you as Committee Chairman can  preside over a significant increase in the percentage of all Utahn homeowners and all Utahn business owners who on a year-round basis rely exclusively, almost exclusively,  primarily, or partially on Renewable Energy sources for providing electricity to  their homes and businesses.

Possibly additional state personal-income-tax incentives and state corporate-income-tax incentives could be offered by the State of Utah  to spark massive statewide financial  investment in and reliance upon Solar Power and Wind Power throughout  our great state.

It also  seems to me that well-funded innovative "Renewable Energy Research and Development" projects throughout our state can help Utah become one of the two or three most extensively Wind-powered and Solar-powered states in the entire USA.

That expected future  "Renewable-Energy Renaissance" here in Utah should add thousands of additional jobs to our state's economy while significantly boosting the median annual income of each gainfully employed adult  Utahn and the median overall combined annual household  income of each  Utahn household.

The expected  Renewable-Energy Renaissance in our state can also dramatically  reduce air-pollution levels, including   inversion-layer air-pollution levels, throughout  Utah.

This, in turn, will boost Utahns' medical health while enabling our state  to attract hundreds or thousands of additional tourists each year---- bringing many thousands or millions of dollars of additional total tourism revenue to our state.

Thank you again, Chairman Albrecht, for your very  prompt and thoughtful reply letter to me today. I want to wish you, your entire Utah House Energy committee, and your other very honorable  colleagues in the Utah Legislature  a very successful year.

Sincerely and Best Wishes,

John Kevin McMillan, 535 South 200 East, Apt. 912, Ninth Floor, Salt Lake City, UT 84111.

Most of the wind and solar generation in the state is contractually sold out of state to other utilities right now. Primarily California, because it meets their portfolio pricing. Utah has the lowest electric rates in the country, California some of the highest. Utah’s all of the above energy policy has served the state  well. Some of the utilities in Utah are presently purchasing some solar and wind when it’s available and economical,  and fits their resource portfolio.

A respectful FYI to each of you very influential Utahn government officials and civic leaders on the following (below) brainstorming  letter I wrote and sent yesterday  to Utah State House Majority Leader Mike Schultz.

I would welcome any reply note on any aspect of this that any of you are willing to send me.

Best Wishes,

Dear Utah State House Majority Leader Mike Schultz,

I am sure you and your legislative colleagues are all very aware that our great state of Utah has phenomenally enormous  potential as a Solar Power-Producing  and Wind Power-Producing state.

Do you or any of  your Utah State House colleagues support proposed state funding as soon as possible for a new outside consultant study to identify the potential annual contribution to the economy of Utah from the sale of surplus solar-power-generated and wind power-generated energy to neighboring or nearby states?

I am referring to states such as Idaho,  Nevada, Arizona,  Colorado, Wyoming,  New Mexico, and possibly Montana or Oregon or California.

Above is a link to a copyrighted recent "Quora.com" statement that refers to the current sale of excess energy from one state of the USA to another.

I hope this very  tentative brainstorming letter is helpful to you, your Utah House colleagues,  and to our entire beloved "Beehive State".

Sincerely and Best Wishes,

Nebraska native John Kevin McMillan, 535 South 200 East, Apt. 912, Ninth Floor, Salt Lake City, UT 84111.

My cell phone: (512) 993-7305.

I am the youngest grandson of Murray (UT) butcher shop owner and LDS member  Parley Neal McMillan of Murray and his devoted LDS member wife, Mrs. Alice Mae Pugh (maiden surname) McMillan of Murray.
