Dear Salt Lake City Public Library System Public Safety Director Dave Corrington,

It was very good to meet you this Thursday afternoon at the indoor  podium where you stood at the interior open-air entrance to the first floor of the Salt Lake City Public Main Library at 200 East near 400 South in the downtown area.

I was very impressed by your statement to me  during our in-person conversation yesterday  about a great success story from  the entire 20-year history of the current  Salt Lake City Main Library building.

There never been any incident, you said,   in which any library patron, visitor, or employee at  that main library has ever attempted to push or throw another person  over an indoor rail that protects pedestrians from falling 50 or more feet onto the floor, or over an outdoor ledge and  onto the outdoor  ground or outdoor sidewalk 50 feet or more below an outdoor  balcony.

I would like to respectfully ask whether  you currently have adequate funding to increase the height of the ledges of the many balcony areas of the library that each overlook a lower-level floor of your library that is dozens of feet below that ledge.

I feel hopeful that inexpensive  renovation work of that type throughout the interior and exterior of the library could help to prevent both violent crime and attempted suicides and suicides anywhere inside or on the grounds of the Main Library.

Thank you again, Mr. Corrington, for taking the time to talk with me yesterday  in the podium area where you were politely greeting library patrons.

I hope this follow-up letter proves to be helpful to you and your noble cause of promoting public safety for everyone at the Salt Lake City Main Library.

Sincerely and Best Wishes,
John Kevin McMillan, a formerfull-time employee of the Texas Department of Public Safety and a  permanent resident of Utah ever since January 1, 2023.
