Dear City of Salt Lake Streets Division Director Aguilar,


Congratulations on your very influential position of leadership for the City of Salt Lake.


Mr. Aguilar, I need to ask you for some information.


I need an estimate from you on how many of the current street-name signs at street intersections here in Salt Lake City are currently fully-illuminated and fully visible to motorists and pedestrians at nighttime. Also, how does that total citywide number compare with five years ago?


I am sure you are very aware that many of the non-illuminated street-name signs at street intersections here in Salt Lake City are currently very difficult, if not impossible, for motorists and pedestrians to read at nighttime. This causes daily and year-round confusion and needless travel barriers for visitors from out of town, university students, new residents here, and many of the permanent residents here.


Mr. Aguilar, are you currently developing plans for a safety-minded and life-saving citywide installation of glow-in-the-dark or fully-illuminated, easy-to-read street-name-identification and numerical-street-block-identification signs at each and every street intersection in our state-capital city?



If not, do you agree with me that installation of fully-illuminated street-name signs at numerous street intersections here in Salt Lake City could help reduce the number of motor-vehicle accidents and help prevent traffic injuries and fatalities each year in our state-capital city for Utah?


Finally, Mr. Aguilar, I would like to respectfully point out that vigilant private citizens here, myself among those private citizens, are currently hindered at nighttime. We are hindered by difficult-to-read street-name signs when we attempt on our cell phone to offer a helpful public-safety report or possible crime tip to the Salt Lake City Police Department.
