Dear Mr. McMillan:

Thank you for writing to me. Unfortunately, the State of Texas has very little oversight of local criminal justice or housing issues. However, the City of Austin regulates both.

The Austin Police Department has jurisdiction to investigate any criminal conduct, including sexual assault, that occurs within the City. You can call 911 to report emergencies, or you can submit an incident report online at http://www.austintexas.gov/department/ireportaustincom.

The City’s Code Department enforces minimum housing requirements. You can find more information about the City’s Code Department by calling 311 or by clicking this link: http://www.austintexas.gov/page/common-austin-code-violations.

Respectfully,

Kirk Watson
