AUSTIN POLICE DETECTIVES ARE EXPECTED TO INVESTIGATE THEFT OF LETTERS OF THE ALPHABET FROM COMMERCIAL-REAL-ESTATE PROPERTY DISPLAY SIGNS IN FRONT OF THREE DIFFERENT APARTMENT COMPLEXES NEAR NORTH PLAZA DRIVE AND EAST RUNDBERG LANE IN NORTH AUSTIN

The three apartment complexes I'm aware of in my neighborhood of north Austin where alleged thefts of letters of the alphabet from commercial-real-estate-property display signs in front of those apartment complexes are: Spanish Palms Apartments, The Park at Stone Creek apartments, and San Leon Apartments.

All of those three complexes are located within a few blocks of one another.

I filed a report at 7:22 p.m. this evening with Austin 311 that one or more criminal persons are allegedly committing theft of property from display signs in front of at least three different apartment complexes along North Plaza Drive near Rundberg Lane here in north Austin.

I had been planning to report some of the cited incidents last year, when I first noticed the problem for two display signs in front of two of those complexes. I believe I may have neglected to file that initial report last year, however.

Today, I observed outrageous abuse of a third commercial apartment complex's front display sign by alleged thieves. Also today, I for the first time noticed two or more letters missing from the northeastern display sign along Rundberg Lane in front of Spanish Palms Apartments.

I was so outraged by all of what I saw today that I decided to go on record as publicly opposing this type of deplorable damage to commercial real-estate property by one or more alleged vandals.

The Austin Police Department incident number assigned to this alleged thefts case is: APD Case 20-5014211, according to Christine, a helpful and very polite female APD staff member who at 7:57 p.m. today provided me with that factual information on the telephone.

ANYONE WHO HAS ANY CRIME TIPS TO OFFER--AND THEY CAN DO THAT ANONYMOUSLY, IF THEY WISH---IS URGED TO CALL 311.

YOU WILL NEED TO CITE APD CASE NUMBER 20-5014211 IN OFFERING FACTUAL INFORMATION OR RUMORS THAT MIGHT LEAD TO AN ACTUAL ARREST OF ONE OR MORE SUSPECTS IN THIS ALLEGED THEFT-CRIMES CASE.

OTHERWISE, ANYONE WITH INFORMATION TO SHARE ABOUT THE ALLEGED THEFT-CRIMES CASE CAN CALL OR VISIT APD's NORTHEAST DISTRICT OFFICE at 12425 LAMPLIGHT VILLAGE AVENUE----A FEW BLOCKS SOUTH OF PARMER LANE.

THAT DISTRICT APD OFFICE'S PHONE NUMBER FOR CONTACTING DETECTIVES THERE IS (512) 974-5491.

PLEASE CITE APD CASE 20-5014211 WHEN YOU CALL OR VISIT THAT APD NORTHEAST DISTRICT OFFICE WITH ANY INFORMATION OR RUMORS ABOUT THE CASE.

The addresses of the three apartment complexes where the cited alleged thefts of this very peculiar type have allegedly been occurring, along with additional factual information about the incidents:

--"Spanish Palms Apartments", located at 1007 East Rundberg Lane, near the intersection of North Plaza Drive and East Rundberg Lane.

Two of the three total display signs at the northwestern and northeastern corners of that complex are each missing one or more letters of the alphabet. For instance, the display sign on the northwestern corner of that complex now reads: "Sp_nish Palms Apartments". The letter "a" is sadly missing.

---"The Park at Stone Creek" apartment complex at 9200 North Plaza Drive. The letter "a" is missing from the word "Park" in that complex's front display sign.

---"San Leon Apartments", 9121 North Plaza Drive. The letter "n" is missing from the word "San", and the letter "e" has allegedly been stolen from the word "Leon".

The incidents appear to possibly suggest that several of the apartment complexes in this neighborhood are being victimized by one or more criminal persons who are allegedly addicted to stealing letters of the alphabet from commercial-property display signs.

These alleged crimes may possibly be motivated by a form of possible addiction that might be classified as kleptomania, as the following Mayo Clinic webpage indicates.
