THE LOYOLA UNIVERSITY HEALTH SYSTEM OF THE CHICAGO AREA OF ILLINOIS OFFERS ACCIDENT-PREVENTION-MINDED SAFETY TIPS FOR CHILDREN (AND ADULTS) RIDING A BICYCLE

The above link is to a fact-filled and very educational website sponsored by the Loyala University Health System in the Chicago area of Illinois.

That website offers helpful advice to children, parents, and others on how to safely ride a bicycle.

The above-cited link is the very first "hit" that appears on the computer screen if you Google the terms "Loyola University Health System" and "bike safety", with quotation marks around each term, together.

One of the alarming statistics from this Loyola University Health System website:

"Did you know that each year 550,000 people (in the United States) require medical treatment due to bicycle crashes, and 950 people die? Six hundred (of the bicycle-accident victims who are fatally injured each year) are children. Approximately 80 percent of the deaths result from a brain injury. Each year nearly 50,000 bicyclists suffer serious head injuries. Many never recover. The proper helmet can reduce head injuries by 85 percent. "

This information at the Loyola-sponsored website is apparently provided by The Safe America Foundation. That foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to injury prevention and the practice of good safety habits through the distribution of safety products and innovative educational programs.

More information from The Safe America Foundation can be obtained by contacting that organization at 1-770-218-0071 or emailing them at safeamerica@mindspring.com .
