Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez Invites Reports About Narcotics, Prostitution, or Organized Illegal Gambling.

"VICE
"The Travis County Sheriff’s Office VICE Unit is tasked with investigating the possession, manufacture and trafficking of narcotics, and certain types of human trafficking, prostitution, and organized illegal gambling. If you have information related to any of those types of crimes, we encourage you to relay that information to us by calling the VICE Unit Tip Line at (512) 854-7425 or via the form below.
"The phone and email tip lines are usually checked by VICE Unit Investigators on a daily basis during regular business hours. Tip lines are not generally checked on weekends or holidays. If your situation is not an emergency but requires an immediate response from our Patrol Division, please call the TCSO non-emergency dispatch line at (512) 974-0845. If you have an emergency, please dial 911."

If you observe evidence of illicit-drug activities, prostitution, or illegal organized gambling WITHIN the city limits of Austin, this Travis County Sheriff's Office webpage does not specifically state that you are expected to call the Austin Police Department in that scenario.

It is possible that the Travis County Sheriff's Office will be willing to investigate some cases, at least, that occur in Travis County within the city limits of Austin. I plan to call the Sheriff's Office to obtain clarification on that point.

'Crime Victims' Bill of Rights', as Cited by the statewide group 'People Against Violent Crime':

I was very pleased to learn about this noble non-profit Texan group today while pursuing crime-deterrence-theme research on the Internet. The e-mail address for this Austin-based group is: pavc@peopleagainstviolentcrime.org .

Three quotes from this admirable group's copyright-2020 website:

"Every 3 ½ minutes, a violent crime occurs in Texas. In each instance, at least one person is a victim that needs assistance and guidance through the process of victimization and the criminal justice system."

"PAVC’s mission is to ensure that the rights of crime victims are upheld according to the Texas Crime Victims’ Bill of Rights and to coordinate with victim service providers, law enforcement agencies and criminal justice agencies to help make certain that adequate resources are available to all victims of crime."

"People Against Violent Crime was founded (in 1982) by Nell Myers whose daughter, Cydney Myers, was brutally murdered in 1979. Upon learning of the injustices in the criminal justice system, Nell committed herself to making a difference in the lives of crime victims across the state. She established PAVC in Austin, Texas with 36 charter members."

Does Anyone Know of a More Recent Online List of 'Progressive' Organizations in Austin, Texas?

http://progressiveaustin.org/orgs.htm This list (see link, above) I reviewed today for the first time ever contained contact information for dozens of civic groups of a wide variety of cited goals and topic areas that are based in Austin. However, this online list was most recently updated on January 25, 2008. If you are interested in having an involvement with any of the local civic groups cited in this very lengthy list, you could pursue some online research on your own to find out whether the cited contact information is currently applicable for that group.

Study: UT-Austin, with 449 COVID-19 Cases, Ranks Number One among American Universities in That Dubious-Distinction Category.

"The University of Texas has the highest number of reported coronavirus cases among all public and many private higher education institutions across the country, according to a survey by The New York Times. "The Times surveyed every public university in the country as well as every private university that competes in Division I sports or is an elite research university and found more than 6,300 cases in 270 universities across the country. UT topped the list at 449 cases as of Tuesday. The university also has reported one death as a result of the coronavirus — a custodial staffer who died earlier this month." City of Austin Public Health Department in July 29, 2020, press release: "The most important way to prevent West Nile Virus is to reduce the number of mosquitoes where people work and play. Mosquitoes can only breed in standing water and need as little as one teaspoon. By draining all sources of standing water in and around your property, you reduce the number of places mosquitoes can lay their eggs and breed."
