Dear State Rep. Cole and State Senator Eckhardt,

I wish each of you the best of success in authoring or sponsoring new bills and resolutions this session that truly help to foster major progress in our state.

I am a gainfully-employed, law-abiding, single adult male conservative-leftwing lifelong-nonChristian registered voter and current constituent of each of you very influential state legislators in Austin.

I hope that the following online personal blog I wrote and posted today will offer factual information from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics that suggest possible public-policy-related ideas for a proposed new state law either of you might want to author or sponsor that encourages the establishment of additional very honorable and diligently law-abiding and privacy-respectful labor unions in Texas---including right here in our state-capital city of Austin:

"Those who wonder why so many Texans are low-income and don't have health-insurance benefits might want to review the following exactly quoted paragraph (see further below) from a website of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics federal agency in the Washington, D.C. area.
"A helpful online chart at the online link provided below notes that Texas in calendar year 2020 was one of only nine states in the United States where the percentage of all of the wage-and-salary workers in those states who were members of a labor union was 4.9 percent or less.
"The only states fitting that description in 2020 were: South Carolina, 2.9 percent; North Carolina, 3.1 percent; Utah, 3.7 percent; South Dakota, 4.3 percent; Tennessee, 4.4 percent; Virginia, 4.4 percent; Georgia, 4.6 percent; Arkansas, 4.7 percent; and Texas, 4.9 percent.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics offers this online summary in regard to the labor union membership rate in Texas last year---less than half of the nationwide average labor-union membership rate for all wage-and-salary workers in the USA that same year:
"'In 2020, union members accounted for 4.9 percent of wage and salary workers in Texas, compared with 4.0 percent in 2019, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Regional Commissioner Michael Hirniak noted that the state’s union membership rate was at its peak in 1993, when it averaged 7.5 percent, and tied for its low point of 4.0 percent in 2016 and 2019. (See chart 1 and table A.)
"'Nationwide, union members accounted for 10.8 percent of employed wage and salary workers in 2020, up by 0.5 percentage point from 2019. Since 1989, when comparable state data became available, union membership rates in Texas have been below the U.S. average."'
