The following very practical double-locking advice might also be applicable to many of us non-UT-Austin persons in the context of our everyday lives in our northeastern section of this state-capital city:
"Use a two-lock locking system when securing your bicycle on campus.
"Austin has one of the highest bicycle theft rates in the world. Two locks take twice the time, tools and energy for a potential thief to defeat. The primary lock should be a U-shaped lock that uses a flat key, and the secondary lock a self-locking cable. Watch a video illustrating how to double-lock your bike. ...."

When I happened to find this item online tonight, I myself was not aware that our city of Austin as a whole has "one of the highest bicycle theft rates in the world." I am very grateful to the UT-Austin Police Department for sharing with all Austin residents this very alarming information.
This statement from UT Police indicates that they obtained a very recent citywide statistic about the bicycle-theft rate for Austin, Texas, and then found a ranking of cities around the world in which Austin was apparently rated among the worst in the world for bicycle theft.
