People who can balance their lives and manage impulses of all types trust themselves to have a beer or two. We have learned that those who abstain are always on the edge of losing control.
Old saying 'Never trust a man who doesn't drink beer' is a fairly safe cliché.
Which it includes both adults who don't drink at all, AND those who ONLY drink hard liquor drinks. Both nondrinkers and EXCLUSIVELY hard booze drinkers are equally undesirable socially and doing business with.
A beer or few, and occasional hard liquor drink, most days no drink, never having your life driven by booze. Pot good, but same way; just when the situation fits.

If you can't trust yourself, it tells others to do the same. That's the result of your feelings in your posting. People assume you came out of rehab, on the verge of implosion, or just a bitter judgemental simpleton.

Does anyone know why so many Central Texans exhibit prejudice against those of us who choose to abstain from drinking any alcohol or any beer in our own lives?

Central Texans who bash teetotalers overlook the point that:

---always-sober teetotalers are much safer drivers to face on the roadways of Central Texas than are drivers who consume alcohol.

---always-sober teetotalers make very fine "designated drivers" for you when you attend parties where alcohol is served.

---always-sober teetotalers are much less likely to physically assault you or sexually assault you than are Central Texans who actually get drunk.

---always-sober teetotalers are much less likely than alcohol-consumers are to sexually harass you, such as by pinching you, grabbing you, goosing your behind, forcing a hug on you, spying on you, stalking you, or attempting to harass you during your bedtime hours.

---always-sober teeotalers are much less likely to inflict profane or obscene speech on you against your wishes, or to hurl verbalized death threats at you.

---always-sober teetotalers are much less likely than are alcohol-consumers to break into your home and commit a felony home-invasion crime victimizing you during periods when you are asleep and lying unconscious on your own bed inside your locked private residence at nighttime.
